FlyQuest support Michael “Cryogen” Luu has been named the 2026 LCS Rookie of the Year. The award recognizes his first full season at the highest level in North America after a rapid climb from collegiate and Tier 3 competition. It is a separate honor from the Summer Split MVP, which remains scheduled for announcement on October 1. Cryogen’s selection therefore closes one award category while the league’s final individual prize is still undecided.

The result came through the LCS awards process, which combines ballots from the broadcast team, third-party media, professional team representatives and a collective fan vote. Fans voted from September 4-13, and the rookie winner was announced on September 24. That structure matters because the honor should not be described as a popularity vote alone. Cryogen won within a broader panel system that evaluates performance across the split and season.

A short route from development play to the LCS

Cryogen entered the league without a long record in the established second tier. He played only eight games in the North American Challengers League during 2025, while most of his earlier resume came from Tier 3 and collegiate League. FlyQuest nevertheless placed him into a roster that carried several young players and entered 2026 with modest external expectations. The team improved over the year, reached the EWC North America qualifier final and earned its first international qualification by defeating Sentinels.

His role made that transition especially demanding. A support must coordinate vision, engage timing and communication while adapting to a new partner and a faster competitive environment. FlyQuest head coach Thinkcard emphasized Cryogen’s growth, his logical approach and an element of unpredictability. Bot-lane partner Massu also pointed to the pressure attached to the position and framed the award as an early milestone rather than a finished career verdict.

What the award confirms and what remains open

The title confirms that Cryogen was selected as the season’s leading eligible newcomer. It does not place him on an All-Pro team retroactively, and it does not make him the league MVP. Those categories use their own ballots and announcement schedule. Keeping them separate avoids turning one strong result into claims the LCS has not made.

Cryogen also becomes the third player associated with FlyQuest to receive the rookie award. V1per won in the 2019 Spring Split, while Massu took the honor in 2024. That history gives the organization a recurring development story, but each winner reached the award through a different roster and competitive environment. Cryogen’s unusual feature is how little conventional academy experience preceded his first complete LCS campaign.

The team result provides useful context without deciding the individual vote by itself. FlyQuest exceeded early expectations and reached an international event, giving its young support meaningful high-pressure games. At the same time, the award recognizes the player’s season rather than guaranteeing future starts, titles or international appearances. Continued development in champion flexibility, communication and consistency will determine whether the debut becomes a foundation.
