Patch 26.20 Preview Shifts the Worlds Meta

The full preview for League of Legends Patch 26.20 outlines the final planned balance pass before Worlds 2026. Riot balance lead Matt Leung-Harrison lists buffs for 11 champions, nerfs for five, two item reductions and a Hextech Rocketbelt adjustment. The patch is expected on October 7, eight days before Worlds starts on October 15. These are preview values rather than final live notes, so any individual number can still change before release.

Diana, Kennen, Kindred, Lillia, Lucian, Mordekaiser, Neeko, Smolder, Tahm Kench, Vayne and Swain are on the buff list. Ambessa, Ashe, Cassiopeia, K’Sante and Yunara are marked for nerfs. Experimental Hexplate is being reduced for ranged users and Runaan’s Hurricane is also listed for a nerf. Varus and Sylas were pulled from the preview, which means they should not be described as receiving a confirmed 26.20 balance change on the basis of this document.

Several buffs target exact combat levers

Diana’s W bonus-health ratio is proposed to rise from 11% to 14%. Kennen’s E bonus attack speed increases at every rank, moving from 40/50/60/70/80% to 50/60/70/80/90%. Lucian’s attack damage growth rises from 2.5 to 2.9. Mordekaiser receives two listed changes: the level-scaled Q bonus moves from 0-55 to 0-66, and the R cooldown falls from 140/120/100 to 130/110/90 seconds.

The nerf side also contains specific adjustments. Ambessa’s passive maximum bonus damage moves from 5-30 plus 25% bonus AD to 5-25 plus 20%. Cassiopeia’s W cooldown rises from 24/22/20/18/16 to 26/24/22/20/18 seconds. K’Sante’s W mana cost increases from 40/45/50/55/60 to 50/55/60/65/70. These changes reduce damage or access rather than removing an ability, and their competitive effect remains a prediction until teams play on the patch.

Rocketbelt trades haste for stronger damage

Hextech Rocketbelt is presented as an adjustment because one part loses power while another gains it. Ability haste falls from 20 to 10, but Supersonic damage increases from 100 plus 10% AP to 135 plus 15% AP. Calling that a simple buff or nerf would hide the trade. The item offers less repeated ability access through haste and more damage on the active under the previewed numbers.

The other item changes are listed as nerfs. Experimental Hexplate is specifically limited for ranged users, while Runaan’s Hurricane receives a general place on the reduction list. Exact values for those two items are not reproduced here because the reviewed material does not provide a complete stable set in the same detail. Their presence matters, but an invented number would be less useful than a precise boundary.

Patch timing raises the stakes without proving a meta outcome. An expected October 7 release leaves eight days before Worlds begins on October 15. Professional teams can evaluate the final notes during that interval, but the preview does not confirm which champions will be selected, banned or ignored. A larger number on paper is not evidence of stage priority.

The distinction between a preview and live notes is especially important for Varus and Sylas. Both were pulled, so they are not included among the current changes. Riot can still alter the list before launch, but readers should not carry an earlier proposal into the final summary. The official patch notes will become the authoritative record once published.

Among the champion changes with exact values, Kennen receives a flat increase of 10 percentage points to E bonus attack speed at every rank. Lucian gains 0.4 attack damage per level. Mordekaiser’s ultimate cooldown falls by 10 seconds at each rank. These arithmetic comparisons explain the scale of the proposals without claiming how many games they will change.

The preview therefore gives players and teams a preparation list, not a completed competitive verdict. Buffed and nerfed labels indicate Riot’s intended direction, while the exact live behavior depends on the final notes and subsequent matches. Checking the October 7 release remains necessary before treating any listed value as locked.

  • Buff list: Diana, Kennen, Kindred, Lillia, Lucian, Mordekaiser, Neeko, Smolder, Tahm Kench, Vayne and Swain.
  • Nerf list: Ambessa, Ashe, Cassiopeia, K’Sante and Yunara.
  • Item reductions: ranged Experimental Hexplate and Runaan’s Hurricane.
  • Removed from the preview: Varus and Sylas.

Patch 26.20’s preview gives Worlds teams a broad balance list and several exact proposed values, but it is not the final patch record. The expected October 7 release will determine what actually goes live before Worlds begins on October 15.
