About LOS Academy
LOS Academy served as the developmental affiliate of the LOS organisation, operating as the secondary roster within a professional League of Legends structure. Now classified as a disbanded team, LOS Academy represented the crucial but often overlooked tier of competition where emerging players sharpen their skills beneath the main roster.
The Purpose of an Academy
Academy teams exist to bridge the gap between amateur play and the top professional level. By fielding a second squad, an organisation can scout, sign and cultivate young prospects in a competitive setting, giving them structured practice, coaching and match experience without the immediate pressure of the main stage. Promising academy talents can then be promoted to the senior team as needs arise.
Feeding the Pipeline
For an organisation aligned with the Brazilian competitive scene through its main LOS side, an academy project offered a means of investing in the future. These development rosters compete in feeder leagues and academy circuits, where results matter less than the growth and readiness of the individuals involved. Many established professionals trace their origins to exactly this kind of environment.
The economics of running an academy are challenging, however. Maintaining a full second roster demands additional resources, staff and infrastructure, and organisations frequently reassess these commitments as competitive formats and league structures evolve. It is common for academy teams to be dissolved even while their parent organisation continues to compete at the top level.
LOS Academy is now a former team, its operations wound down. Yet the developmental philosophy it embodied endures across League of Legends esports, where the constant search for the next generation of talent ensures that academy systems remain an integral part of how organisations build for the long term.
