Energy against Fury is the quiet story. Zed’s kit is paid for from a fixed Energy pool that refills on its own schedule, and Living Shadow only returns Energy when he and a shadow strike an enemy with the same ability, once per cast. Rek’Sai generates Fury by attacking and by landing basic abilities and spends it on health or on true damage, so a drawn-out fight tops her up while it drains him.

Her 58.0% over 169 games on patch 16.13.1 also owes something to durability. Zed’s 654 base health and 2,337 at level 18 barely lead her 600 and 2,283, which is a thin margin for an assassin who must enter melee range to land Shadow Slash and Death Mark. His 125 attack range against her 175 hands her the opening hit, and Burrow’s sense of nearby movement denies the unobserved approach his kit is designed around.

• Difficulty: Zed is rated 7 against Rek’Sai at 3, and Death Mark punishes its own caster when the follow-up is misjudged.
• Escape: Void Rush and Living Shadow can each cancel a committed burst, so whoever holds theirs longer tends to survive.
• Resistances: Zed opens on 29 magic resistance, the thinnest defensive figure either champion carries, while maximum-Fury Furious Bite ignores the 111.9 armor he reaches at level 18 regardless of what he builds.
