Morgana vs Shen Counter Pick

Shen is one of the few champions who pays for abilities with Energy rather than mana, and in a support role that matters far less than his 125 attack range. Morgana works from 450, enough to stay outside the path of Shadow Dash most of the time. Over 158 games on patch 16.13.1 she holds 57.0%, a count small enough that individual players still move it.

Shadow Dash taunts everyone it passes through, and a taunt is a disabling effect, so the ability that makes Shen useful can be pre-empted by a barrier cast a second early. Spirit’s Refuge blocks attacks aimed at him or at allies near his spirit blade, but Tormented Shadow is not an attack, and its damage keeps ticking on anyone standing in the circle. Twilight Assault scales with the target’s maximum health, which is a poor fit against a support who starts on 630.

Shen is the tougher body, finishing level 18 on 2,293 health behind 105.4 armor while Morgana arrives at 2,398 behind 96.4. His damage is mixed, so part of it slips past magic resistance, and Ki Barrier returns a shield after every cast with a shorter cooldown when the spell affects other champions. What he cannot do is threaten a 450-range opponent who never needs to approach, and Stand United sends his value to a different fight while leaving him alone with her.
