Hijack changes how Mel uses her ultimate. Golden Eclipse strikes every enemy marked with Overwhelm regardless of distance, and Sylas can steal it and cast it freely, so holding it for the largest window is no longer a free decision. The recorded rate is 50.7% over 154 support games on patch 16.13.1, graded even.

Spacing is the counterweight. Mel attacks from 550 units, Sylas from 175, and he closes that with Abscond, a dash he can recast to pull himself to whatever his chains hit. Solar Snare exists for that approach: a root at the orb’s center, damage over time and a slow around it. Rebuttal negates damage and bounces projectiles back for its duration, covering the delayed Chain Lash explosion if the timing is read correctly. Her 330 move speed against 340 rules out walking away from a committed Sylas, so the root has to land first.

Sustain favors Sylas once a fight extends. Kingslayer heals him against champions, Petricite Burst whirls his chains after each cast, and he ends at 2,674 health against Mel’s 2,313 with more armor as well, 117.4 against 109.4. His 600 base health is the smaller opening number, which is where Mel’s damage has to land. Both are rated 5 for difficulty, consistent with a result this close.
