Kayn vs Trundle Counter Pick

Pillar of Ice creates impassable terrain and slows everything near it, which is normally a dependable way to end a chase. Against Kayn it does very little, because Shadow Step lets him walk through terrain, so the wall Trundle raises to separate them is simply crossed. That interaction underpins the 54.7% Kayn records across 181 games on patch 16.13.1, a small sample where the mechanism deserves more trust than the margin.

• Subjugate steals health, armour and magic resist over four seconds, and 38 base armor rising to 114.5 makes Kayn a productive target for it.
• Chomp saps attack damage alongside its slow, cutting into the 68 attack damage he starts with.
• Frozen Domain grants Trundle attack speed, move speed and increased healing while he stands on it, so fighting on his ground is a choice rather than an obligation.

Elsewhere the contrast is durability against burst. Trundle ends on 2,520 health at 350 move speed to Kayn‘s 2,406 and 340, and King’s Tribute heals him whenever a nearby unit dies, which is difficult to out-trade around camps. The counter is skipping the long fight: Blade’s Reach slows from range, Reaping Slash closes, and Umbral Trespass strikes from within. Magic resist is irrelevant on either side of this fight, so armour decides it, and the two bases sit within a point of each other at 38 against 37, meaning nobody melts anybody in one rotation. The difficulty scale reads 5 for Trundle and 8 for Kayn.
