Akshan vs Azir Counter Pick

Few champion-difficulty gaps in the game are as wide as the one between Akshan and Azir: 0/10 against 9/10. Azir’s entire kit depends on positioning Sand Soldiers correctly before Arise! and Shifting Sands become usable, and any disruption to that setup collapses his damage output. Akshan’s Heroic Swing provides exactly that disruption, letting him dive onto Azir’s soldiers or bypass them entirely on a grapple point Azir cannot easily punish.

Both champions deal mixed damage and sit at comparable range, 500 for Akshan, 525 for Azir, so neither wins the poke war by default. The 275-game sample from patch 16.13.1 puts Akshan’s win rate at 57.8%, an Easy rating that tracks with how demanding Azir is to play under pressure. Azir’s passive, Shurima’s Legacy, only functions near turret ruins, which restricts his positioning further in a lane where Akshan can threaten from multiple angles. Akshan’s low mechanical floor means most of his damage comes from patient auto-attack resets rather than combo execution, and that patience is difficult for an Azir under constant harassment to punish back. Azir’s 575 base health is also the lowest of the two laners, and once his soldiers are cleared or bypassed, there is little standing between Akshan’s auto-attack resets and a clean kill.
